Buying. Building. Extending. Renovating. We’re here to help.

Have you ever wished you had a friend in the building industry who could give you the inside knowledge on things you don’t know but need to know?

Who could point out problems before they occur, make sure your ideas and money match the proposed design, and contribute to the success of one of the biggest investments of your life? My business is built on being that friend.  I’ve seen a lot of building sites in my time. I’ve pored over plans, wrestled with budgets, designed and redesigned homes, extensions and renovations and made all kinds of misfit buildings into homes. I’ve worked in every kind of weather and worn through 34 pairs of work boots (but who’s counting?). In the thousands of homes I’ve worked in, the thing that always saddens me the most is seeing lazy planning and poor design work at the conceptual stage of the design. Because I know that a family will have to live in a home with those mistakes for many years to come.

House design needs to be an elegant mix of form and function and this works best when it’s designed specifically for the people who will live in the home.

After all, your family is not the same as the family next door, so why should your house be? But all too often the relentless pace of the building industry leaves little time to refine and perfect design.  Christopher Haydn Consulting is my way of bringing my knowledge and skills directly to homeowners, to give the considered attention to each plan and project that will aim to show benefits for years to come. I help you take a little more time at the start or during your build to give care and attention to how a home will perform. I can make a critical and informed investigation into your plans and ensure the elements of the plan and budget stack up. And most importantly check whether your house is going to deliver what you need.  This is the kind of consultancy I have done over the years for my kids, for family and friends – and now I’m available to consult with you, to make your home just right for you and your family.

When I’m not poring over house plans or walking through building sites, you’ll find me spending time with my wife, kids, and grandkids. The grandkids keep me young and in return I like to pass on my skills while we do small building projects together (kids are never too young to hold a hammer or paintbrush, right?)

Family is the most important thing in the world to me and I’m pretty sure it’s the most important thing in the world to all my clients too. And this is why I take care to get every plan and every budget as good as it can possibly be. Because homes aren’t just cold boxes that provide shelter. They are spaces in which families interact. Homes have to provide a platform for the everyday tangible needs of a family in the orbits of their lives. And homes need to be backdrops for those sublime moments where family love is tangible in the room.

I want those moments to take place in a house you love and that loves you back.
